Garage Door Install | Part 3 | Hardware

Hey there, folks! Today, I'm diving into a simple yet effective DIY project that anyone can tackle. We're going to spruce up a plain door with some affordable hardware that you can easily find at your local hardware store for around 20 or 30 bucks.

So, let's get started! First off, here's what you'll need for this install: a small drill with an 11/32-inch or 3/8-inch drill bit, a pencil, a screwdriver (preferably Phillips head), a tape measure, and of course, your chosen hardware. In my case, I've got four screws and two outside door handles.

Now, the tricky part with these handles is getting them aligned just right since they don't have any straight edges for reference. But fear not, I'll walk you through it. After positioning the handles where I want them on the door, I make sure they're aligned with the door's seal and mark the spots for drilling.

Next comes the drilling part. I start with a pilot hole using a drill bit slightly smaller than the screws to prevent any splitting or cracking of the wood. Then, I attach the hardware using a hand screwdriver, being careful not to over-tighten and strip the metal.

Once the handles are securely in place, it's time to add the finishing touches. I mark the spots for the double handle, ensuring it's centered between the panels, and drill accordingly. For this, I'm using carriage bolts and sleeves to ensure a sturdy fit.

After drilling and inserting the bolts, it's time for the moment of truth – checking if everything lines up properly. And voila! With a bit of adjustment, the handles are snug and secure.

Finally, I attach the handle with self-tapping screws, and we're all done! It's a simple yet effective way to elevate the look of your door without breaking the bank.
